Key West Fishing - May 2009
By: Capt. Justin Rea
Flies of various colors like yellows, olive, and black & purple have worked well. The green toad is always a good choice but I think some tarpon are so conditioned to seeing it that they are starting to get smart and avoid that color fly in some situations.
There are plenty of 100- pound tarpon on the ocean flats and in Key West Harbor.
On the shallow side, the bonefishing has been excellent both west of Key West and in our backcountry near Sugarloaf Key and Big Pine.
Consider the summer and fall for fabulous bonefishing. Stalk permit on the flats while wading at sunset during the fall, or scout out some baby tarpon. I have some available dates around July 4th and in the fall.
