Well here it is - summertime once again. It seems the older I get, the faster the seasons fly by. Sometimes you just have to step back, take it all in, and be thankful for all the good things in life. I love to fish, and for the past 40 years I’ve been making a good living out of it. Life is good!

Speaking of good, May and June produce some of the very best fishing anyone could hope for. It’s the best of the best. Today we got on 100s of tailing Tarpon, along with big Permit. For three hours early this morning it was non-stop action. Schools of migrating Tarpon are back. The Permit are done spawning and they are back as well in big numbers. It was non-stop tails!

This time of year, winds turn southeast. Cold fronts are history and fishing has turned on big time. The one thing about summer fishing is you have to leave out early. I leave the dock at dark-thirty and run to my spot before the sun comes up. It really is something else watching the sun rise while sight fishing 80-100 lb Tarpon. Sunrise is the magic time. Not only do you get the best shots of the day, you fish the coolest part of the day. By the time it’s heating up and fishing starts to slow, we are headed home. Also, beating all the other guides out has its perks.

So if you think you might enjoy sight fishing Big Tarpon and Permit using the lightest gear available, I think you just might have a good time fishing with me here in Key West. Keep in mind May and June are my busiest time of the year, so try not to wait until the last minute to book your trip. If you are interested, I also do sunset Tarpon trips as well.

Although the oil spill is the worst environmental disaster mankind can inflict upon ourselves, I believe the oil will not hurt the Keys. It’s over 500 miles north of us and let’s just hope BP does its job.

For booking information and availability, please call my toll free number, 888-574-0178 or my cell, 305-744-8985. Sorry, this time of year I am too busy fishing to answer emails, so please give me a call.
